Welsh Alchemy. A Styled Autumn Micro Wedding Shoot at Cae Gwyn

Sarah Symonds

Catch the golden hour with this gorgeously golden, glowing autumn wedding shoot set amongst the hills and valleys of Northern Wales, capturing hearts with some of the best Welsh talent the wedding industry has to offer.

It’s true, we do think small is cool and there’s no way that love will be beaten! We love it when we know we’ve inspired someone and this time that someone is the team behind event planners The Little Welsh Wedding, who have sent us the resulting project – a small but perfectly formed styled shoot set deep in the stunning scenery of Wales and Snowdonia with views for days, natch.

Capturing all the magic of the Welsh countryside is no mean feat but it has been done expertly by an all-Welsh team of incredible suppliers – I mean, who better for the job?! The showcasing of homegrown suppliers doesn’t stop there either as Sws Bridal only stock gowns by Welsh designers, and the beautiful and classic Amy Mair Couture dress you’ll see was the clear right choice here! You’ll also spot pops of orange, pink and peach in the undone floral styling complemented by gold and traditional candles, all set in a pitched bell tent, meaning everyone has somewhere cosy to head to if the elements get a little OTT.

CONCEPT

The team say: The reason behind doing this shoot was that, during these uncertain times, I wanted to bring all local suppliers together to show exactly what can be achieved by having a small, intimate wedding outdoors. We went for an autumnal bohemian wedding theme with warm rich golden tones. We were also inspired by Brides Up North’s quote “small is cool, small is luxe, small is beautiful” and this is exactly what we wanted to show in this shoot.

LOCATION

The shoot took place at Cae Gwyn, Caernarfon, Gwynedd. The location for the shoot is a new marquee location set in a beautiful spot in North Wales. Overlooking the Menai Straits and a picturesque view of the mountains of Snowdonia. A perfect spot for an outdoor wedding. They also have a catering business covering North Wales, Arlwy0 Caegwyn Catering.

STYLING

Ty Blodau, a florist based in North Wales worked with us. We decided to go for warm rich autumnal colours; gold, burnt orange and greenery to go with the boho look. On the wedding table we had gold cutlery, neutral candles and eucalyptus. Tada Tent Event provided a beautifully styled bell tent which worked perfectly with our theme. Welsh illustrator Heledd Owen provided lovely invitations and menus all in her own style matching the autumnal colour palette.

Oak Frame Hire is by Geriach Glesni. She offers a range of unique items to hire or to buy, Glesni is also based in North Wales.

ATTIRE

The dress provided by Sws Bridal, whose bridal gowns are all designed and made in Wales by Welsh designers, is by Amy Mair Couture. A beautiful champagne dress to go with our bohemian theme. It has character with a flowy skirt and beading. The brown tweed suit by Trefor Jones was the right choice for our autumnal boho groom. The handmade Welsh jewellery is by Angela Evans.

BEAUTY

Colur gan Anest Parker is a wedding makeup artist based in North Wales. Hairstyling and hair accessories was by Cassie M. Cassie is a multi-award winning bridal hairstylist and offers a range of hair accessories.

As we went for a bohemian outdoor theme, we went for natural looking makeup with golden tones. Hair was worn down in loose, softly textured curls with a beautiful boho headband to complement with a few small pearls matching her dress. It is all about the effortless style.

RESULTS

Even though it was particularly windy on the day, I think it added something special to the photos. During these uncertain times with all of us having to postpone weddings until next year, it was great collaborating with such creative individuals and coming together to create beautiful photos. Our aim was to show that we can adapt and demonstrate how beautiful and special small intimate weddings can be. We do have more exciting ideas and shoots coming up for small weddings in the near future.
